Cincinnati (WKRC) – According to reports, the Cincinnati Reds have dealt two pitchers, one of whom went to a rival team in the division.

According to Matt Gelb of The Athletic, left-hander Tyler Gilbert was transferred to the Philadelphia Phillies. Gelb’s use of the phrase “purchased” suggests that the Reds would be compensated with cash.

The 30-year-old Gilbert made seven appearances for AAA-Louisville this season, including three starts, after signing a minor league contract with Cincinnati in the winter. His ERA was 13.11 and he was 0-1. Gilbert was not listed among the team’s forty players.

In 2021, he became the fourth player in MLB history to pitch a no-hitter in his very first start. Gilbert’s entire Major League Baseball experience came with the Arizona Diamondbacks, when he went 2-7 with a 4.32 ERA in 28 games.

Right-hander Jake Wong was dealt by the Reds to the Chicago Cubs late last week, according to MLBTradeRumors, which cited the MLB.com transaction log. What was sent back the opposite direction is unknown. Wong had not pitched for Cincinnati this season and was not included in the organization’s 40-man roster.

Last season, Wong made one MLB appearance for the Reds, giving up three runs in three innings against the Baltimore Orioles. In 12 games for Louisville in 2023, he recorded a 1-3 record and a 9.58 ERA. Additionally, in 22 appearances with AA-Chattanooga, he was 2-2 with a 5.17 ERA.
