Tuesday’s game summaries
Miami Marlins vs. Atlanta Braves
Max Fried pitched a full game shutout, striking out six in just 92 pitches (69 strikes) and allowing just three hits (two by Luis Arraez) and no walks to help Atlanta defeat Miami 5-0. In terms of performance and pitch selection, Fried was reverting to his 2022 form.
The bottom of Atlanta’s lineup was dominant offensively; in the sixth inning, Adam Duvall’s two-run home run opened the score, and the final four batters in the lineup combined for seven hits and five RBIs. Tonight, the Braves aim to complete the sweep.

The Phillies of Philadelphia
The Phillies were defeated 8-1 by the Reds in a dreadful game played last night at Citizens Bank Park. Two of Philly’s five hits came from Alec Bohm, and the Reds scored four unearned runs as a result of three mistakes made by Philly. In this game, Trea Turner, Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber went 0-12 combined with one walk, while Philly only went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine baserunners stranded.

The majority of the defensive blunders were committed by Cristopher Sánchez, who was tagged for five runs (albeit only one earned) and required 74 pitches to complete just three innings of work. He also struck out and walked three batters.
Nationals of Washington
did not have Patrick Corbin sailing through 5.1 innings without giving up a run against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that is precisely what he accomplished—allowing just three hits while generating a ton of activity on the basepaths thanks to his three walks. But LA capitalized on the bullpen, scoring four runs off of relievers to win 4-1.

The Nationals lost the first game of their rematch last week despite walking eight times and having CJ Abrams provide three of Washington’s seven hits, continuing his breakout season. The Nationals also left eleven runners on base and managed just one extra-base hit.
While Logan Webb crushed New York with eight scoreless innings of six hits and a walk, Luis Severino was…okay for his six innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits without walking anybody and striking out five. Camilo Doval entered the game and recorded the final two outs to record the save as New York became more aggressive in the ninth inning, scoring three hits and a run.

Tuesday’s MVP: Adam Duvall of Atlanta, who finished with 2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and 2 hits.
Max Fried of Atlanta is the pitcher. He has a 9.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, and 6Ks on 92 pitches (69 strikes).
