SAD: The Phillies loss interest in Sidelined White Sox Superstar Trade…

Will the Philadelphia Phillies Continue to Trade for the Sidelined Superstar?

Apr 13, 2024; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago White Sox Luis Robert Jr. (88) is presented the Silver Slugger Award.

The Chicago White Sox could be a potential option for the Philadelphia Phillies if they need an additional bat in the outfield.
With this lineup, the Philadelphia Phillies might have a World Series contender, but might they add additional players before the trade deadline?

Philadelphia could add some more star potential to the squad because it is anticipated that the Chicago White Sox will make a number of trades at the deadline.

An established talent, Luis Robert Jr., is coming off a 2023 Silver Slugger Award nomination and an All-talent candidacy. 2024 got off to a sluggish start for him, and he hasn’t played since April 5. Is it really worth it for the Phillies to consider trade for him?

Philly’s outfield, which is led by Johan Rojas and Nick Castellanos’ subpar performances, is ranked 26th in OPS. Their outfield would become more versatile with Robert Jr. in the mix, giving them more options come postseason time.

The 26-year-old has a team option from 26 and 27, although his contract is only guaranteed until the 2025 campaign. That would provide an escape route in case things go horribly wrong or the need lessens.

His slash line for his career is.278/.325/.500. The sample size for 2024 is not quite large enough to support avoiding a typically consistent hitter.

In addition to adding some additional firepower, Robert wouldn’t significantly weaken the defense. He weighs 230 pounds, so he’s a bigger player, but he’s been one of baseball’s greatest defensive center fielders. He has a 25 career OAA, having reached 13 in just the last season.

The most important thing to do before the trade deadline is to add another outfielder. The Phillies should consider the top names on the market in order to compete, since they are willing to trade their prospects.

The native of Cuba hasn’t played much in 2024, but he is getting well and should be ready to play again shortly. Although such a deal may appear excessive, it might hold the secret to Philadelphia’s postseason success.
